Is it normal for a dog to shed more in one spot.?
You may want to take him to the vet or at least call. Your dog could have a number of things causesing this hair loss, including high stress levels, mites, fleas,or allergies. If you cannot take him to the vet now try giving him a bath with shampoo formulated to kill fleas/mites. Make sure the shampoo is for dogs! And follow the directions on the bottle.
P.S.: It might be helpfull if you can post a picture of your dog's shedding.

no, my chow chow has like 2 hairless spots on each of her sides. from her scratchen so much.. we brought her to the vet and we found out that she is highly allergic to fleas. so we go and get her a shot every month and the hair grows back. it cost like $50 for the shot but its worth it.
good luck
