Why does my dog stink?

OK, she's part chow/part corgi and she's always had terrible skin troubles. We've taken her to the vet twice now to get special pills and shampoo. NOTHING is working. She smells better for 2 or 3 days, then it's like this horrible, disgusting, like nothing I've ever smelled before smell kicks in and won't go away. I can't take it much longer! We walk her every day, brush her, take very good care of her, and she still STINKS!! I hate that I don't want to pet her and give her hugs like I used to. I have to keep a cone on her head 24/7 b/c otherwise she chews on herself non stop. She doesn't have fleas, but she's got this red irritated skin and her hair is falling out all over the place. Why can't the vet figure out what's wrong with her? He just keeps giving her different pills and shampoo that don't work and cost a fortune! Please help!

Find a new vet or start over.

she might have a fatal illness or a bad mix

I think you should take her to a veterinary dermatologist. It sounds like she is really sick. No wonder she smells if she's covered with red stuff. Have you ruled out allergies? If not, read up online about doing a food trial and feeding her only limited things to see if she gets better. Then you'll know it's a food allergy. But other allergies are possible, too. I definitely think your vet doesn't know what's wrong with her and isn't helping much. So go to the specialist.

Wow, i think i would go to a different vet... Sounds like a serious allergy problem, or some kind of dermatitis, possibly a form of mange maybe... Your vet should take a skin scrapping and try and figure out what is going on from there.. Try some benedryl but find out from a vet how much to give (it depends on body weight) but there should be more he can do for ya.. And it could possibly be the food your feeding her.... Alot of pets have allergies to certain ingredients in cheaper foods. Also have you used anything knew on your floors or in the home, maybe breaking out from that... I would consult a new vet for a second opinion... Good luck

Why does my dog stink?

Allergies to the crap you feed her. Poor dog. Research BARF and start caring about your dog, not nose.

Why does my dog stink?

DONT put any spray Cologne on her...That's what my sister dog was doing cut her hair it may help? Get some allergy pills that what it is.

Why does my dog stink?

she should see a veterinary dermatoligist to rule out skin infections. A regular vet is capable of ruling out the most common problems, but a specialist can check out some of the lesser common issues.

It may also be a food allergy, which is actually my first suspicion, what are you currently feeding her? You may want to switch to a grain free formula that has a simple protein source.

California natural herring and sweet potato is a good allergy forumla

Why does my dog stink?

A while back I had a french bull dog and later in life had quite a smell. like you many a vet trips shampoos pills bla bla bla.

the stink come from the oil gland that they have near there butt. it over produces the oils and they stink.

not much to do but give them a bath once a week.

it sucks I know.

I'm kind of Glad I don't have that smelly dog anymore.

Why does my dog stink?

I will tell you from experience I have a shar-pei and have breed them and they also have skin problems and sometimes smell from extra sweat between skin.First thing to do is switch her/his food. When selecting food look at ingredients don't get anything that has corn or corn glutenmeal in it, it's horrible for there skin it can cause spotting rashes and spots of hair to fall out.As for the smell I use a non-soap shampoo with oatmeal and aloe I think. It works well.

Why does my dog stink?

sounds like demodectic mange, take your dog to another vet, get her shaved down, she needs baths daily with Malaseb shampoo
