I do not recommend completely cutting whiskers off, trimming is OK, but believe it or not... dogs do use their whiskers!! They were put there for a reason :)

Dogs need their whiskers to tell how close they are to something. Whiskers are an important hunting and orientation tool for dogs (dogs are highly sensitive to air currents and vibrations). Also, whiskers are also equated with our eyelashes where they send a message to the brain and we automatically close our eyes when something gets near our eyes.

Not at all. Lots of breeds are shown with their whiskers cut off.

It doesn't hurt them to cut the hair follicle, but it isn't a good idea. The whiskers on a dog's face are to help them judge the area around them...kind of like antennae. They allow a dog to know that it doesn't have enough room to get into a space properly.

You really shouldn't. Whiskers do serve a purpose, they are almost "fingers" for dogs.

Losing his whiskers could cause him to loose his coordination!

Many breed have them removed for showing. Also most breeds that get a face clip at the groomers have them shaved off. It would be hard to shave around them!!!!
