she gets bumps in the summer from sitting in the grass and when i wash her to get rid of any possible fleas her skin is incredibly dry and flakes off and also her hairs easily fall out

I have a border collie who had the same problem. I called our vet and explained the problem to her and her response was to try vitamin e oil and an oatmeal based dog shampoo. It took about a week to see some progress but within a month her skin was cleared up. We still have to repeat the treatment occasionally but it did work for my border collie and it did avoid a very expense vet bill.

sometimes baby oil with aloa vera in it works, but it sounds like my terrier, i keep working one him so good luck

This is a simple dermatological problem. Your vet should be able to provide you with a cream for your dog. My dog was getting a red rash near her hind legs on her tummy, couple of times with the cream, and it cleared up.

If you over-treat for fleas, you may be causing the extra skin problems and hair-loss.

The bumps in the grass could be from flea bites or allergy to grass. Mine does the same. Make sure you use Frontline. If any fleas get on her they will die within 4hrs, ticks also die. The flakey skin can be a condition called seborreaha or from bathing her too often. If you bathe her too often her skin will dry out. Make sure you don't bathe her more than every 2 wks at the most and use an oatmeal shampoo for dogs. Put on a conditioner for dogs too it will help the dry skin. It is important to have her on a good food, a good brand of lamb and rice is great for dryness. Good Luck!

weve got a cat that did this , i went to the farmers market, %26amp; asked them what to do, they recommended a product called "oatmeal pet shampoo", it has deionizd water, a lot of vitamins, ,glycerin %26amp; botanical extracts.

well, it helped her 1st time i used it on her. it says to let it stay on 5 min. 's , so i did, it took so old dead skin off %26amp; when i used her brush on her she was really shiny %26amp; soft. it smelled pretty good too,not perfumey but just a good smell.
