Is it possible that my dog's fur is just now starting to grow at age one?

My papillon just turned one a few weeks ago. I recently noticed that her hair is growing thicker and longer- around her ears and belly mostly. Is this normal for the breed, or is my papillon just kind of a "late bloomer"?

I know that for papillons, their ears may be floppy at birth, but rise after two years. If their ears stay floppy, they are the 'phalene' variety. But is their fur growth the same way?

Is it possible that my dog's fur is just now starting to grow at age one?

It's not at all uncommon for the adult coat to come in between 8-18 months of age. It will get thicker, and usually you will see more fringe on the ears and hind legs. If she's spayed, her coat should stay this way. If not, her coat will fall out when she comes into season, then grow in thick again when she is done.

Is it possible that my dog's fur is just now starting to grow at age one?

At about one year you will start to see the fringe. It takes about 3 years after that for the long, long hair to come in on the ears.

Make sure you brush it every day (esp. behind the ears) once the fringe comes in otherwise you will get mats and it will take longer to grow out. Another thing, if you take her to the groomer to get a trim remind her to NOT cut the ears and tail. A lot of groomers are not experienced with papillons and cut their ear-hair off. I had a friend who has a show papillon and a new groomer cut her ear hair off and ended up with a lawsuit.

Northface and doghair!?

I have a northface and unfortunatly it is covered in dog hair. I tried using that sticky roller that gets pet hair off but i was wondering if there were other ways to get it off because i still have some on my jacket.

Northface and doghair!?

What I'd normally do with my jacket filled to dog hair is vacuum clean it. it sucks the hair out from your jacket without going through the hassle of having it washed the second time.

Northface and doghair!?

besides using a lint roller, you can try washing it and then drying it in the dryer with a fabric softener sheet that is specific for propelling pet hair from fabrics

Northface and doghair!?

Wash and dry it.

We have a new shelter dog... help me :)?

he is

collie/setter he loves to chase birds and barks sharply at them lol

he knows to chase a ball, comes when called and "sits /lays down most of the time. The shelter said he was 2 yrs. our vet says he is about 14 mos. he is black and white with long silky, soft hair. what kind of things can I expect from his breed mix?

Thanks for your help :)

ps

his playmate is our 18 mo.old .F boxer. they get along very, very well ~!

so far I can't tell who is the domant pup

We have a new shelter dog... help me :)?

Awww good for you giving this dog a home! And great that he is only 14 months, he'll be easy to train.

With this mix you've got a very active dog who likes to work. Take him out for lots of walks and play games that challenge him, like fetching, catching a frisbee, finding biscuits in a kong etc. He will be a smart boy and will enjoy obedience training - you might even get into agility! Lovely that he's got a playmate, they will enjoy life together. Just watch them around other dogs, sometimes 2 dogs will get a "pack" mentality and might be capable of things they wouldn't normally be.

Also, I'm guessing he has a long coat? He will need brushing most days and if it gets too hard consider having his coat clipped shorter. You may need to get him professionally groomed reasonably regularly. Look out for hair between the toes etc, it can grow long and make it difficult or dangerous to walk.

Enjoy your new dog and bless you for giving him a home :)

We have a new shelter dog... help me :)?

Thank you for selecting a shelter dog, I am certain this dog will give you a lifetime of love and thanks for giving a loving good home..

these two breeds are great little dogs, you can expect alto of energy, loving, fun, companion dog, wants attention, alot of affection......and sleeping on the foot of your bed....

your boxer and this little dog should get along fine, the boxer may be the dominant one, but don't count on it, shelties are really tough little dudes and have a mind of their own....

We have a new shelter dog... help me :)?

Congrats on your new addition! Being so young, I wouldn't expect any social problems with either of your dogs.

It sounds like your new dog is arleady showing the instincts of a setter, which is a fabulous bird dog. don't be surprised if he chases birds all the time. I would watch him off leash, though, as he may take off after one.

You could go on the AKC website and read about the characteristics of each breed, and then have some fun trying to find traits in your dog that fit each breed!

We have a new shelter dog... help me :)?

Don't worry about which dog is dominant! This whole thing about dominance is something that people worry about way more than dogs do!

Some dogs feel more strongly about some resources than others, so are more willing to try to get them or protect them. Even submissive dogs will try to protect their resources from a more 'dominant' dog. And in every situation this changes, so a dog that guards a bone may be willing to give up a soft bed. So long as your dogs behave appropriately with each other you don't have anything to worry about. If they don't then you need to train them, and it doesn't matter which dog is 'dominant' they both need to learn the rules of living with humans. Check out some good training books at this site

I am looking to buy a new vacuum. I would like one that is also good on hardwood floors and has atta

for hard to reach areas. Something that is not too heavy and I do have a dog, so it should be good with dog hair. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I am looking to buy a new vacuum. I would like one that is also good on hardwood floors and has attachments..

I would think a regular vacuum cleaner would scratch hardwood floors. I use a SwifferVac for my hardwood so they won't get scratched. Works great but the battery life sucks. I also have a bagless Eureka Boss upright for my carpet. It is excellent, costs $150, is heavy, but you should see all of the stuff it picks up!! I also use a microfiber flat mop for my hardwood and clean it with hardwood and laminate cleaner once in a while.

I am looking to buy a new vacuum. I would like one that is also good on hardwood floors and has attachments..

in one word, expensive. that would be a Kirby. We love ours, hardwood floors and tile to shag carpet and corners, edges and cleans the carpet as well as vacuum. like i said they are expensive but I wont ever have to buy another vac. again as long as i live~!

I am looking to buy a new vacuum. I would like one that is also good on hardwood floors and has attachments..

I can recommend a Vacuum cleaner I personally own and can vouch for Panasonic upright, it is powerful and efficient when it comes to picking up dog and cat hair, it is lightweight and easily maneuvers around the home, I like this vacuum so much I am planning on buying a new one soon this time I will purchase a bagless Panasonic the price on this vacuum is always less expensive than some well known brands and has lasted a very long time without breakdowns. Hope this has given you some insight as to the best vacuum for a whole lot less money. Good Luck !

I am looking for a dog breeder. I need to find a mixed lhasa-poo. For sale?

there are two kinds of lhasa poo,and lhasa aspo, And it looks like a bear with curly hair, its mixed with a poodle.the one i need is the lhasa-poo.

I am looking for a dog breeder. I need to find a mixed lhasa-poo. For sale?

I'm so sick and tired about hearing about all these self-righteous people on here complaining about how people who mix breeds only do it for profit. You are insane if you think those who breed purebreds don't breed dogs for profit. If it didn't pay the bills and give them an income they could live on or make their living situations better do you honestly think they would be dog breeders. Everything is done for profit, some care about the dogs and make profit while doing so. It is possible for someone to breed mixed dogs and care about the dogs and take good care of them...just as it is possible for someone who breeds purebreds to not give a crap about the dogs and not take care of them. Everyone needs to get off their high horses and let people get the dogs they want. As long as they love and care for the dog like it deserves it should not matter.

I am looking for a dog breeder. I need to find a mixed lhasa-poo. For sale?

No responsible breeder breeds mixed breed dogs. Mixed breed dogs are mutts. A responsible breeder is dedicated to a particular breed and breeds to preserve and improve that breed. Those individuals who are producing mutts and dubbing them with "Designer dog" names are motivated solely by greed and are not only perpetrating an unscrupulous scam on the public, but doing harm to the very dogs they breed. They do NO health screenings or genetic testing at all. They do not even breed to a standard, (because there is none). Please don't support such unscrupulous practices.

I am looking for a dog breeder. I need to find a mixed lhasa-poo. For sale?

Why do you NEED a mixed breed from a breeder? Check out petfinder.com- they list alot of rescue groups. I'm sure you can find a lhasa poo from a shelter. Any breeder who intentionally breeds mixed breeds is not reputable. Rescue is the way to go.

I am looking for a dog breeder. I need to find a mixed lhasa-poo. For sale?

Why not go to a shelter, and find a loving critter that just need a home? What difference does the "packaging" make????

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

She is very unorganized. Stuff all over the place, her bed has nothing but clothes on it. The house looks like crap, she has a dog and I told her to brush it, and she doesn't so on top of that we have a bunch of dog hair on the floor. I always have to organize whatever I can. Whenever I tell her this, she gets very pissed. Please tell me what I can do, and don't tell me to move out, legally I can't. I'm a dude and can't stand it, most guys don't care about messy places, but this is bad.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

Sounds like mom's depressed; That's exactly how I was for YEARS until I started seeing a psychiatrist and "saw" my problems and started dealing with them; I'm still working on it, but have come a long way; suggest counseling TOGETHER; If she doesn't want to go, go by yourself to help you deal! My son actually has helped me tremendously (he's 18) in getting more organized....

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

Film her, take video of the house and if she sees it, it may spur her to take action. Offer to clean up/donate and maybe she'll be in a good mood one day and let you.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

hire a maid when she's gone, or plot a way for her to leave and get a team of maids to organize everything

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

u cant

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

You need to plant something in her room, like something that will rot and stink up the place. She won't be able to live with that and will be forced to clean up to get rid of the smell...if she can live with that stench then God help you both.

Plus, you can try to get her to buy like those plastic containers to put crap in. They have large plastic bins that can be kept under the bed.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

take her on that one show on TLC. It's the one thats helps the people get organized and orgainizes a room.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

Man I don't know,My mom's the some way with her cloths.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

There is nothing you can do. My mom is the opposite. Every thing goes into the trash. Then she finds later that she need it!!!!

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

You wait till she falls asleep, then start putting things on eBay...

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

just dispose of things a little at a time. she'll never miss it and when she asks say I dunno it was over there last week. look for missing thing for a couple minutes and suggest if the place was more organized thing could be located eaisier..

she won't change so just deal with it until you can get out on your own.

Cheers!

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

It's her business and it's her life. I'm sure while you were growing up she tried her hardest to change you. Sorry but I'm going to say it. Move out if you don't like the fact that your living under HER roof free of charge...

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

Pack rats are hard to change. She needs psychological help but most don't want to go see a psychiatrist. The house can be a fire hazard. It is dangerous. GEt professional help to throw away the rubbish even if it will make her angry. She won't kill you, so just do it. Get her away for a few days or whatever time it takes to clear the house. Get the professionals to come to take a look to estimate the time to take to clear the house.

JUST DO IT. Your life depends on it if you don't want to die in a fire.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

You can't. It's psychological and not necessarilly a problem.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

Someone said plant something that will rot and stink. I agree with this. The best things to plant are a broken egg and a bowl of milk.

How can I stop my mom from being a pack rat?

The fact is its ur moms house, she can do what she wants. Best advice, have ur own room just as u like it, get a lock for the door to stop her encroaching on ur space, and deal with it till ur old enought to leave home. It could be a mental problem or just her nature. Either way, ur pushing a boulder uphill by trying to changer her.

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

She is about 9 months old and a mix of hound, lab, shepard, pointer, maybe beagle and heaven knows what else. She is about 35 #. She will eat anything I give her. The vet said beef or chicken broth but how would this help? Her hair fell out where she was wearing a collar and I have removed it except when we are out for a walk. i got her a harness instead. I have heard fish oil?? Thanks for suggestions.

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

Before giving her any supplements, you must consult with your Vet.

There is a product called-

"Excel Brewers Yeast with Omega 3 Fatty Acids"

-Natural daily supplement provides proteins, zinc %26amp; biotin for healthy skin %26amp; coat. B-complex vitamins help keep coat shiny %26amp; lustrous. Omega 3 fatty acids maintain healthy skin to reduce excess shedding. Give 1 chewable tab per 10 lbs body weight.

Sometimes, commercial pet food can have digestive problem which, in turn prevent fatty acid other essential nutrients from being absorbed.

Allergies can be a factor. Have you checked if she's allergic to anything? It's a huge test to pin point this one out, but allergies can cause skin irritation which results in dry coat.

But, don't overlook the obvious when trying to figure out what's taking the shine out of her coat. Is she taking a dip in the chlorinated pool every chance that she gets? Does she enjoy sleeping next to the woodstove or heated area? Are you bathing her frequently, perhaps too often, or using a shampoo that is too harsh? If you're constantly bathing her, then, this could be the culprit. You can actually use human hair conditioner next time. Mind you, next time doesn't mean bathing her right away. She might smell, but that's ok unless she rolled in something awful..Just don't over-bath her.

However you should see your Vet if:

- there's dandruff on the furniture

-you give your pet a generic food (bad food can cause dry coat - consider buying her premium puppy food that has essential nutrients added in the food)

-shedding or scracthing more than usual

-severe dry skin

-fur is greasy or smells even after bathing

-change in skin colour or the skin seems loose

-skin of the lips, abdomen or rectal rectal area is yellow

-red dots on her skin

-bad sunburn (which I would hope not!)

There is no evidence to show that chicken or beef broth will remedy in her dry coat. If anything, it will make a nice meal for her.

I think you should look at the food that you're feeding her....Also, check out the supplements out there for dry coat such as the one I mentioned. You can pick up supplements at a health pet store. The staff here are very knowledgeable when it comes to animal wellness.

Good luck.

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

Try olive oil mixed in her dog food. and raw eggs

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

Fish oil is a great solution for dry skin and drab fur. What you might try first off is looking at what you're feeding her; they say "you are what you eat" and it's true with dogs too. I switched my long-coated dogs to a food made of fish and it did wonders for their coats. Sometimes allergies can cause dry skin too, and a lot of allergies are caused by the grains used to hold some foods together. I know my dachshund is allergic to corn and wheat. And just like people, using a good remoisturizing conditioner after shampooing and not washing her too often will help keep things balanced. Be sure you're using cleansers that are ph-balanced for dogs! Good luck!

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

I bought some oil specially for dogs at Walmart. You just mix it with her food. My puppy just licked it out of the bottle. It's chocolate-flavored (just like a woman!). You can also buy Brewer's Yeast for dogs and it has ingredients in it to control shedding.

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

use oatmeal shampoo when bathing the dog.

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

Some breeds just have course hair. You could try one of the good spray on coat conditioners available.

Make sure you are feeding a high quality food. Do not ask you Vet for advice about nutrition, most know very little about it. I would not give broth unless you are making it yourself, it is VERY high in sodium. I make my own broth/stewed chicken for mine, just make sure to remove all the bones. Then you can freeze it in small proportions.

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

try moist dog/ cat food that is what my sister did for her cat

What do you give your dog for dry fur? Her fur seems too coarse?

eggs are a good dietary supplement. They provide oils which will make her fur healthier. Also some dogs have naturally coarse hair. In that case there is not much you can do.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

I have 2 Great Danes in the house and of course, they are couch potatoes and I am looking to buy a new couch-for the dogs. I have heard microsuede is very good, but wondering if this is so? How well does the dog hair clean off this type material?

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

I honestly was t-totally against microsuede when I purchased my couch simply becuase I could visualize my dogs nails puncturing and ripping the upholstery. To my amazement microsuede seems to be bullet proof-lol. I have 2 rambunctious Boxers who bounce off the furniture-no holes yet! It also cleans up with simple baby wipes. I have a Dyson vac that sucks dog hair out of upholstery easily.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

I don't have any dogs, but I do have a cat and a dog that visits (fur niece). I've not had any problems with my microsuede. I have the living room and bedroom set in it, and it cleans up easily. I had the stainguard application put on it. Fur isn't easy to get off of any material, really, but I just take a lint brush or the vacuum, and it seems to work pretty well for the cat hair.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

We bought a microsuede couch about 3 years ago. I loved the couch. Our chihuahuas lick it constantly and leave spots all over it that look like pee stains. There is no way to clean them and get the stains off. When you clean it you just get bigger stains. I would never buy another microsuede couch. NEVER! No problem with dog hair.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

It cleans off very well. I had it with a long haired dog, a short haired dog, and two cats. The hair came right off with both the vacuum and just using the adhesive rollers. I loved it.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

Our microsuede sofa stands up to 3 large dogs, including the family rottweiler mix...talk about hair and drool. Cleans super quick and easy and withstands all sorts of abuse from nails, teeth, and slobber.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

Sounds like microsuede is the way to go, just make sure you purchase a quality fabric or you will have trouble with stains and spots. Check out what fabric dog beds are made of, they go under rigorous testing for this specific thing.

Is Microsuede a good choice with animals?

I have a couch and two dogs............I did have the protector stuff applied when I bought the couch. I actually scrub it with Scrubbing Bubbles and a small scrub brush. It cleans up better than any other material. My dogs don't shed so I don't know how it is with fur.

As long as you have it scotch guard (or whatever they call it) you will be fine.

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

i have a jerman short hair and i love to walk him but hes pretty strong and about pulls my arm off i fill bad leaving him in the cage all day because hes got so much energy but i cant walk him and if he gets away from me he runs so far i have to wait for him to come back and he only comes back when he ets thirsty help pleas

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

This is one of the most common problems people have when training a dog, which is unfortunate because it is also one of the easiest problems to correct.

First, you should get a good slide collar (also called a choke collar) or pinch collar if you prefer. With a slide collar, when you are facing your dog and putting the collar on, it should form a letter P - the end you will fasten the leash to should be hanging down to your left. This is because you should train your dog to walk (or "heel") to your left side, and putting the collar on this way will allow it to slide properly.

Now for the easy part. When you take your dog for a walk and he wants to forge ahead and drag you along, STOP! The dog is straining on the leash because he wants to get where he's going quickly. If you simply stop, he isn't going anywhere. Wait until your dog has relaxed, then start walking again. If he strains again, stop again immediately. It will not take long before the dog realizes that straining on the leash is producing exactly the opposite effect from what he wants, and when he realizes that, he'll stop straining.

I'm not kidding when I say that most dogs can be broken of straining at the leash in a single day. Some who have been doing it for a while may take as much as a week or two, but you CAN do it IF you are consistent about your training. The first couple of sessions you may not get anywhere, but that's alright - the point of these sessions is the training, not the walk. You may feel frustrated the first couple of times, but your dog will be at least as frustrated as you, and he will be learning, "Hmmm - if I strain at the leash my owner doesn't walk. If my owner doesn't walk, I don't get to walk. When I'm not straining at the leash, my owner will walk, and I get to walk. I wonder how I can solve this problem and get to take my walk?" You don't have to scold the dog, bribe him, or anything else. Praising him when he does heel by your side is always productive, but even the dumbest dog will quickly figure out that if his actions (straining at the leash) are counter-productive to his desired goal (getting somewhere) his best course of action is to stop doing what isn't working.

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

This dog needs discipline! Take him to obedience school, and learn how to teach him to respect you.

German Short-haired Pointers are VERY intelligent dogs, but they have boundless energy, so you need to establish control. If he's older than about 2 years, you're going to have a problem doing this as he will be set in his ways. It IS possible though!!

I strongly recommend going along to classes because not only will it give your dog body exercise, it will also stimulate his mind, which he really needs, AND it will teach you how to control him. Pointers are the best dogs in the world, but they really need a lot of work to teach them to be obedient.

When you're looking for a dog school, try to find one that doesn't advocate the use of choke-chains, as Pointers' throats are particularly delicate.

Pointers are bred to run and work and hunt. Your dog needs discipline and training or he'll just keep doing what he's doing. If he gets away from you and runs on to the road, then it's very likey he'll be hit and killed by a car, and I'm sure you don't want that. Train him now. It's never too late, it's just more difficult with an older dog. You owe it to him to protect him from himself and his instinct to run, so teach him some discipline, please!

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

Hey,

One of my dogs is the same way. She got prettty nuts when you put a leash on her, and pulled like crazy to get to the dog park. I bought a collar that goes around her face and well as her neck- i cant remember what its called- ( i think maybe its called "gentle leader"- it keeps dogs from putting their nose down b/c its uncomfortable, and if they cant put their head down, they're not going to pull you) but if you go over to your local pet store and ask them for help, they probably could give you a heads up.

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

Obedience training! No dog should be left in a cage all the time! They are only for when you cannot supervise your dog. Is there no way to fence in or tie out your dog for a little fresh air in addition to being walked? Obedience training will also help you get a handle on "come".

If your dog isn't neutered that may also be part of the problem.

There is a head harness also that is a miracle for dogs that pull hard. It's a very humane way to control pulling. It's called a Gentle Leader (forget the Halti brand). Be sure you have someone who knows how to use it help you or at least watch the training DVD/ video first.

Good Luck

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

use a choke chain, doesn't really hurt the dog, he'll learn to stay with you. If you don't like that idea you could get one of those special collers that go around the muzzle... or the harness type coller, both are used to help you have more controll over the dog.

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

You could try to train him not to pull, with rewards and petting whenever he is not pulling. When he is just ignore him. After a while it will get some results.

In the meantime what about letting him run freely in the fenced dog parks? he can let go of all the energy he has and you don't have to worry about loosing him. Or get a friend with a backward who don't mind you going with him for a short exercise where your dog can run as much as he wants.

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

The greatest collar ever invented is a pinch collar. It looks barbaric, but it's so simple and harmless you'll be amazed. I have 2- 100 lb dogs, they will pull my arm off, but when I put these collars on them (which they hate cuz they have to mind) they instantly stop jerking %26amp; just walk with good force. It in no way hurts them like a choke chain, which can make their trachea's collapse over time. It just has a bunch of what look like hooks (but they're straight on the end) sticking out in the same direction. When the dog pulls (it's set up like a choke chain) the collar cinches together, the dog feels pressure around his whole neck %26amp; stops on his own. It doesn't hurt them at all %26amp; you'll be amazed at how pleasant a walk with your dog can be.

How do i wlk my dog with out getting walked?

let's see, you wait for your dog to come back? dog's are very smart and if your the one waiting then your letting your dog get away with too too much. your dog obviously knows that it can get away with that so why don't you just be smarter than you dog. just play the same game as your dog is playing.

Go to your local Sally's or Beauty supply place were you can get a more professional brand of clippers. I have bought the clipper sets that you get a Walmart and stuff and they don't work. But I have found out that with a better quality clipper from a beauty supply place works the best. If not try petco I know they carry good quality stuff there too. But you need to make sure you keep the clippers clean and oiled especially if the fur is dirty. But if the dog is really matted you may have to clipper the dog with no guard. It is very hard to clip a dog with a attachment on if the fur in knotted and dirty. Good Luck!!!

Oh! Here is a great pic! %26gt; http://members.cox.net/jrogan/wraps.html and a how-to..

Showing this breed is very specialised and time consuming and only for the really dedicated enthusiasts. To grow the Yorkie coat and prepare it to show standard is not an easy task.

Here is a good site for learning all about showing a Yorkie%26gt; http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?action=i...

show dogs are trained differently, handled and groomed so differently than the pet dog, that by the time they get to the show ring, they don't look like the same dog breed..I wish all dog shows were in the rain..so the true dog underneath would be judged..That would knock a lot of winners out of the circle..

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

Even purebred dogs have variation on their genetic make-up. GOOD breeders can show you the parentage of your dog, but puppy mills, who just work by popping out popular breeds to make money don't breed GOOD purebreds, and they don't take care of their breeding stock.

it depends on the parentage of the dog. If you aren't planning on showing the animal, does it really matter?

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

Maybe, he's not pure bred. Could be mixed.

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

My yorkie always had shorter hair. In my opinion they look much cuter with the short puppy cut anyways :)

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

maby someone screwed up with the papers or something,

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

Because it's ***PET*** quality!!!

**NOT*** show/breeding!!

Duh....

Show Yorkshire Terriers are TOP QUALITY to begin with *%26amp;* PROFESSIONALLY groomed %26amp; handled! Their coat is sectioned DAILY(at LEAST!) ***COMBED***-NOT brushed!,oiled %26amp; WRAPPED! They are NOT allowed to break the hair by day-to-day "dog's life"!!!

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

I think it depends on the age of a dog. I have a Yorkie, but keep his hair short. I let the hair on my guy grow out once, but it took nearly a year.

If he's older than that, I don't know what it could be, since you brush him often. What does the breeder say, call them.

How come my pure bred Yorkie does not look like the show dog yorkies?

If you purchased your Yorkie as show quality then I would think you should be concerned. However, if you purchased as companion quality there was a reason for it. I have Yorkies. My male has hair to the floor, his sister does not.

Not all pure-bred dogs are show-quality.

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

i'm thinking about getting a pomeranian.....since they're super duper cute. However, I was wonder if they shred a lot? I have a small allergies, usually with cat hairs, but sometime if there's a lot of dog hair then it can cause it too. So i was wonder before I adopt one if pomeranian shred a lot?

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

Really, DONT get a dog just because they are cute. Yes, I have to admit it, they are cute, but they bark a lot. They have a lot of energy, and want to play a lot. They arent to friendly to strangers, and are hard to train. They also need A LOT of grooming! At least one full brush a day. There are a lot of other cute dogs that are easier to care for, such as a, papillon. They also have a lot of energy. Though their affection level is high, are friendly toward other people, and other dogs. The name, papillon means butterfly. They look a lot like a butterfly to!

To Learn more about these breeds:

papillon: http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto...

Pomeranian: http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto...

Also, see what breed fits you the most, take the test!! It works good! Really, Try it!:

http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto...

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

Yes they do shed quite a bit.

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

pomeranians are one of the harder breeds to potty train, i dont know about the shredding though

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

well pomeranians are average shedders and require grooming

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

No they dont SHRED, but they do SHED a lot. They have a thick undercoat

The Pomeranian's very long, double coat should be brushed frequently. If you work from the head, parting the coat and brushing it forward, it will fall neatly back in place, so the task, although time-consuming, is relatively easy. The cottony undercoat is shed once or twice a year. Dry shampoo when necessary. Clean the eyes and ears daily and take the dog for regular dental checkups. The Pomeranian is a constant heavy shedder.

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

Yes, they do shed more than their fair share. If you get one, you can expect to be grooming your dog every day, and finding dog hair on your furniture, clothing, and sometimes even in your food. Regular vacuuming is a way of life for Pomeranian owners. For most Pom owners, it is worth dealing with the fur; but if you have allergies you may want to consider a different breed.

Good luck; I hope this helps!

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

Yes pomeranians shed alot. I have one and groom alot of them. A great way to prevent and maintain the shedding is to have your dog on a regular grooming schedule to prevent it and keep out the pet dander. I recomend to all customers 4-6 weeks on a pom. They also are wonerful sweet dogs. Any more questions feel free to e-mail me.

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

they are average shedders. But when it's there time to shed, oh yes. It's raining dog fur. Alot of dog fur may cause you allergies... They are sometimes known to be hard to train, and sometimes disobedient. They are accessive barkers when they are bored.

Does Pomeranian shred a lot?

I have a Maltese cross Pomeranian and he sheds quite a bit. Hes just been shaved recently hehe %26gt;.%26lt;

But umm with your allergies if you wanted a small dog that doesn't shed alot here are some breeds that don't shed. or shed little:

%26gt;Bichon Frise - They're cute. Big fluff heads

%26gt;Toy poodles

%26gt;Shih Tzu

%26gt;Toy Schnauzer - They're cute but there lives one across the road that has the most irritating bark...

%26gt; Maltese - They don't shed much at all. And are very cute.

%26gt;Yorkshire Terrier - These lil guys have such a sweet face. But need to be trimmed or shaved, and groomed a lot if wanting to keep their fur long.

I hope this helps.

Recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

i really need some help her... i have mainly laminate flooring throughout my house. i do have 1X1 ceramic tiles in my entry way (12'X12') and have carpet in my bedrooms.

I have 2 dogs that do shed a different times of the year and as you can imagine i have dog hair ALL THE TIME....

I really need a good all propuse vacuum cleaner for my laminate, ceramics and carpet.... oh yeah, also for the area rugs I have in my living room...

Recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

I don't think people are reading your question. All those machines are good for carpet only. Your question screams canister vacuum. They are made for multi-surfaces. There are a lot of different brands that make canisters, but you will probably have to go to an independent dealer to get a good one. Miele is a German manufactured machine, and the best built on the market, hands down. It is also the only one that has a hepa rating on the machine itself, instead of just the filter. The company is very particular about who they authorize to distribute there products, so you'll know you're dealing with a reputable vac store. Their website has a dealer locator. www.miele.com

Recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

I have to agree on the Miele. I own one and love it, the cleaning power is amazing! Report It

Recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

Eureka - The Boss - is a great inexpensive vac. It's about $150 at Sam's Club or Walmart. It received top ratings from Consumer Reports. It even has a HEPA filter. Replacement bags/belts/filters can be ordered at the Eureka website. Also the website has a sale every year in January for 15% off, so I stock up then.

I bought one 4 months ago to replace the older model of the same one that I bought 8 years ago. The 8 year old one still works but the wheels are so worn that I didn't want it on my hardwood floors anymore. I now have in the closet of my screened in porch to clean up out there.

Recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

kirby g5...they are expensive but worth the $$...I have had mine for 10+ years and it works like new as long as you maintain it.

Recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

I would suggest a Rainbow Vac. We bought one in the early 90's and we were amazed with how well it worked then, so we bought another updated one a couple years ago and we've never had any trouble with them. They use water instead of bags, so you empty the water tank when you're finished and fill it up with fresh water for the next use... it keeps the dust and pet hair from floating around the room. You can also add a couple drops of fragrance in the water and it makes the room smell nice. We used ours as an air purifier before, we put Eucalyptus scent in it and it helped with having congestion or stuffy noses. There really a lot of + features with this. A couple cons is it takes a little bit to set it up, you have to add the water and put a couple of things together and it's a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it. Hope this helped!

I clean houses for a living and I bought a dyson. Hands down the best vacuum out there. I got the dyson animal, it has a knob that you turn for bare floor cleaning and rugs. It has a pull out hose for those hard to reach places. No bags to mess with. I have a inside dog also and it sucks up dog hair like a dream. Had mine for almost 3 years and still works like the first day I bought it. Bought mine from sears.

Lightweight vacuum for carpeted stairs...?

I need a lightweight and/or cordless vacuum for the carpeted stairs in my house. It's a high traffic area and we have a dog that sheds and sheds and sheds. I'm kind of weary of some of them, because I just don't know that they'll clean very well. Also, I have terrible allergies and really need it to get the dirt and dog hair up. Has anyone had one that they really like and has done a great job?

Lightweight vacuum for carpeted stairs...?

The best vacuum I have ever used is a shop vac with a small brush attachment on the end of the hose. Unfortunately they are not exactly lightweight nor portable.

For quick touch-ups, try a lint roller. Really picks up the hair and small particles.

Lightweight vacuum for carpeted stairs...?

A lot of full-size vacuum cleaners have a power attachment that is made for stairs and small spaces. It vacuums and has a beater bar. You get the benefit of a full-powered vacuum cleaner, and you only have to invest in one machine. The one I had worked really well, but I don't remember the brand it was.

Lightweight vacuum for carpeted stairs...?

I use a Dirt Devil. Bought it just for the steps and my truck. It works great and weighs maybe 5 pounds. Royal makes it and they're not expensive. I tried 2 different cordless and they just didn't have the staying time or the power to do the job. Finally settled on this a few years ago.Plus this one comes with a handy hanger. I keep mine in the cellar way hall.

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

The dog hair is horrible and I do not want our baby covered in it. Please give me any suggestions on how to control the hair. Thanks!

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

bathe your dog more often with shed control shampoo. brush your dog at least once a week. an under coat brush really does the rtick, something like this: http://www.boomergadgets.com/servlet/the...

also run the vacuum once a day. it's a lot of work but if you mind the hair so much it will be worth it. however, a little dog hair won't hurt a baby.

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

take your dog to the ver immediately and ask for some hairfall medicine if you mind the hair sooo bad.that is one disadvantage of having a dog!

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

You could train your dog to only enter specific rooms, leaving the others off limits and hair free.

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

Get a brush attachment for your vacuum and groom it every day or two.

Good Luck!

RB

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

theres this stuff called shed stop it is available at walmart. you rub it on the dogs coat with a cloth ( i use papertowel myself) and then brush the dog everyday. i have a newfoundlander and a russian wolfhound terrier mix and i have been using the stuff everyday for a week and i have noticed the difference. or get a shedding comb and brush the crap out of your dog and then vaccuum. congrats on the baby!!

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

congratulations on your baby. I had a lab once and even found his hair in my ice trays. Yuk! I think vacuuming him might help, if he lets you, but shedding is a lab thing and it might be unpreventable. Good luck!

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

Take him to the groomer and have him shaved. We do it twice a year and it really cuts down on the hair.

We are having a baby and our lab really sheds. Help?

well you have the good advice aready but I will add in some pet hair may actually be GOOD for the baby. Childen exposed to pets in their first year of life are significantly less likely to have allergies later. www.paws.org/cas/resources/fact_sheets_g... - 17k -

Buy this grooming tool, brush out your Labrador for one half hour once a week, and the difference will be amazing! It works great on breeds with coats such as yours, and digs out all of the dead under-coat on your dog, so he sheds a whole lot less. It is not like any other brush, it is a groomer's tool.

It may be a bit pricey, but it will save you a lot of headaches!

Rash on legs?

Hi My 16 month old got a rash on her legs and butt after visiting a friend who had a new house and Alaskan Husky. I gave her 0.2ml of Benadryl but the rash is still there. Is this an allergic reaction to the dog? Of course she had on summer clothes and was all over the floor. Dog hair was all over the floor too. I don't think a doc visit is neccessary. I am just going to keep an eye on her today.

Rash on legs?

it very well could be, or it could be an allergy to anything else new at their house. my son has food allergies (gluten %26amp; dairy) and we know when he has come into contact with those particular substances, because he gets a rash on the back of his legs and butt. they almost look like dry zits (or old zits) almost pimply.

Rash on legs?

did the dog have fleas, they could be flea bites. If they live in a wooded area they could also be chigger bites. poor baby I hope she gets better, good luck

Rash on legs?

If the rash is localised you are probably right. However if the rash covers the body AND is accompanied by a fever %26gt;38.0 degrees it's probably worth a trip to the GP. If the benadryl didn't work, give it a miss. The other person who maky be of help is your pharmacist. Goto your local chemist (or drug store if you're in the U.S.) and ask.

Rash on legs?

i wouldn't be too worried. but if the rash persists, i would definitely make an appointment. i would also monitor if a fever doesn't come along with the rash. the rash can be caused from anything. it could be the new house, the paint, or the dog. its hard to say. good luck.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

I am just tired of washing and picking the hair everywhere....

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

You can it may look silly but I even had a friend that shaved her cat. It will grow back just fine.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

yes, shaving wont kill him unless u nick him and he bleeds

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

sure it will live, it will look dumb, but it will live. I would not recomend it.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yes you can, it will not die.

:]

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Take the dog to a groomer and let them do their magic. It will be a lot easier on everyone involved.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

It will live but buy it a sweater.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

It will be fine as long as it's not put out in the cold. Consult with a groomer and they should know how to do it.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Their hair is their insulation.

Don't be so damn lazy, brush your dog. You should have gotten a different breed. If you don't like washing and picking up hair, why did you get a collie?

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yeah it will live haha it might be hummilating for the dog though

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yes, it will die the second you touch it with the razor.. Are you stupid?

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yes, you can shave a collie. What in the world would kill it if your shave it? The hair will simple grow back. Why didn't you get a short hair variety?

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

LOL! You can shave any dog. Just be careful that you don't cut him. He will live without his fur, although I don't think he'd be as cute. I don't care much for bald dogs.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

You can shave it. It would probably look like a Smooth (short haired) Collie. It will still shed though.

http://www.oricom.ca/crowned/ano9mths.jp...

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yes, the dog will probably look ugly if you cut ALL of its hair off, it will live but it will be cold. Take the dog to a groomer, they can give it a puppy cut or something like that and it will reduce the amount of hair floating around.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yes you can shave the dog,I have a Yorkie and she has to have her coat clipped every 12weeks,You will have to have your dog clipped at the Dog groomers as it is not a easy job to do..

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Well, it will live, but be ugly and uncomfortable...if you can't stand the upkeep that comes with owning such a beautiful animal, why don't you just re-home "it" (right there that tells me you don't really love your dog..."it" indeed!).

That way your dog can live with someone who really appreciates him or her and will be willing to take proper care of such a wonderful beast.

If you ever have a child, will you keep it shaved and naked so you don't have to wash its hair or clothes?

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Why would you want to shave a Collie? If you want a "Hairless" dog, there are breeds out there that are hairless. God...... I HOPE you DON'T have a collie!!!

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

You can

BUT IT WILL LOOK STUPID

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Yes but he will look silly as all get out. As long as you have a goofy looking dog I would recommend giving him a mohawk. It's not doggie abuse, they don't understand how gooney looking they are.

I'm assuming you mean clipped short, not naked. Get a professional to do it (they have the equipment). You can keep it trimmed yourself at home with a set of clippers. The groomers may opt to leave the fur on the tail long and leave a ruff around his neck. I wouldn't take the hair down to a jarhead level, but I had a poodle I kept clipped down with a 3 or 4 blade.

The dog will be fine. If people give you flack just tell them you got a Slovinian Shorthair Cattle Dog. That's what I did when I shaved my poodle (we had a barn, with mud . . . oh god the matting was horrible unless we kept her shaved). It's fun to watch people nod knowingly and go "Oh yeah . . . "

If it's cold out, put a sweater on him. He might not be used to the cold (which can make him reluctant to stand outside long enough to do his business).

Hope this helps

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

I wouldn't. The vitamin B that you get from laying in the sun is filtered through their fur. It would be o.k if you took it in to a groomers and had it shortened but I do not think that it would be healthy at all to SHAVE the poor pup. I definitely would not do it myself. You need special trimmers for animal fur because the hair follicles are growing much closer together then humans. You will just burn up any human trimmers that you try. Trust the professionals

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

He'll totally live but the con is that he look like hell!

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Your dog will not die. Did someone tell you that?

If you live in a cold climate it would be cruel to shave the dog in the winter.

You should call a groomer. Think about the whole look. Are you going to shave the tail and neck and around the ears? I have seen a shaved collie (in the summer), not a particularly pretty sight.

PS regular brushing in the am and pm will help with the fur everywhere.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

The problem with shaving off a dog's coat is that dogs cannot regulate their body temperature like a human. You risk your dog coming down with all kinds of ailments if you do something like that such a pneumonia, sun stroke, infection from mosquitoes and ticks, poison ivy/oak and skin irritations from fabrics that it lays on.

A collie as I'm sure you are aware, should be brushed on a daily basis to remove loose fur, keep the tangles to a minimum, distrubute oils and just make the dog look more elegant. Giving it a quick brush through everyday for even a few minutes would greatly reduce the amount fur the ends up all around the house.

If you absolutely must, have the dog's fur clipped down, but please don't have it shaved.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

I used to have shelties (minerature collies) and we took them to the groomer and had them shaved. We would leave the scruff of their necks fairly long and their tails fluffy. I thought they were rather cute...before they died...just kidding. They didn't mind at all. Grooming was so much easier. I usually shaved them twice a year.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

she will still shed just shorter hair and yea you can shave a collie however most groomers will advise against it because her hair may not grow back in rite.. its best just to keep brushing your dog every single day i know it sucks but im sure its worth it

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

You can shave any kind of dog and they won't die unless they get too cold.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

yes you can , i will look like a smooth collie thats all , and maybe next time you get a collie you should get a smooth collie

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

i wouldnt recommend it. its hair will never grow back the same. also their coats are the way they are for a reason. their coats help them stay warm in the winter and helps them stay cool in the summer. and if you shave your dog in the summer it actually makes it hotter for them with their coat.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

have you tried a groomer called a rake? and there is a great comb that has teeth that swivel so it doesn't hurt the dog. I have shelties and use the swivel comb to groom them...i groom daily and don't have excess hair in the house. yes, you can shave your dog but it will look terrible and hey, it just grows back anyway. I also think that it is damaging to their self esteem. go ahead and laugh but i've seen them hang their head and refuse to come out of their kennels after being shaved.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

yes you can shave a Collie, and yes it will live.

Can you shave a collie dog? I mean will it live if you shave it?

Hey- vets have to shave the area that they are going to operate on and it hasn't killed any collies as yet.

Collies have long hair because they are from a cold climate and I have actually seen working border collies in Summer months with home made hair cuts so as to keep the dogs cooler while working in the heat. No a hair cut will not kill the dog-unless you you so something silly like put it outside in shockingly cold weather.

People with OCD?

What's the strangest or funniest thing you've everdone?

Like I obsessively clean and one day I'm vacuuming everything ... Try to get rid of the dog hair and all the suddenly it dawns on me I can vacuum the dog. So I start vacuuming my 3lb chihuahua and she'd being sucked up in the vacuum... And she's looking around for help! And I realised OMG am I really vacuuming my dog !!

People with OCD?

I do actually suffer from OCD but this is not the main reason for my weird thing. I get my mind set on buying something (last Sunday it was a Jigsaw and roll-up jigsaw mat) for some reason and I couldn't rest tll I scoured all of Tokyo sunday to find one. I found it and haven't used it yet.

Pug Shedding.... how do you deal with how much your Pug sheds? (pug owners)?

I know he's going to continue to shed TONS, and I love him to death so I can look past it, but I was just wondering if any other Pug owners can tell me how they keep their Pug shedding under control in your house? I vaccum, dust, brush him, changed his diet... and the hair is still EVERYWHERE! are there particular products or things to help this. The only reason I ask is because I work in a professional environment, and I hate having dog hair all over my clothes at work. I use the 3M lint rollers too, but his hair is so fine... that it's hard to get it all. I wish pugs didn't shed so much....

Pug Shedding.... how do you deal with how much your Pug sheds? (pug owners)?

Try to keep him brushed every day. I know how hard it is to brush a pug lol...but thats about the only thing that I've seen help. I know how hard it is to live with, I have 2 pugs and every article of clothing, furniture, and family member i have is covered with pug hair. They're soooo worth it, though.

Pug Shedding.... how do you deal with how much your Pug sheds? (pug owners)?

You could add a skin %26amp; coat supplement such as "Dr Maggies Skin %26amp; Coat" liquid...or possibly feed wild salmon oil..how long has it been since you switched his food and what did you choose? Email me if you want, I have 17 yrs experience in pet nutrition.

What's wrong with my dog?

I have a Lab that has been getting sores on his neck. They have pus and the hair is usually missing and the skin is red. He's had 4 in the past 2 weeks. I felt under the skin and it's bumpy. When they are healing they get hard and have a dark flakey remains. This last one I noticed today is worse than the others. I treat them with peroxide and neosporin. I'd like to know if I should take my concern to the next level.Ideas?

What's wrong with my dog?

Hi, These sound similar to hot spots, especially if he is wearing a collar. Take his collar off and try bathing this area in a strong salt water. This tends to take away infection and debris from the site. Do this twice a day for a couple of days if no sign of improvement I would take him to a vet. PS. It may open right up and look pretty gross if there is something foreign in there before ti gets better. I hope this helps.

What's wrong with my dog?

maybe you should take your lab in to the vet just incase its not a sign of skin cancer. dogs get it too

What's wrong with my dog?

i would take him/her to the vet because it might be cancer!

What's wrong with my dog?

Your dog may have a skin infection from its collar or could be developing a seriously bad rash. Keep the area clean and dry and definetly call your vet. Labs get skin rashes, and worse, they do get cysts that could develop into major tumors. Good luck!

What's wrong with my dog?

It sounds like it could be a fungal infection, the best thing to do is take him to the Veterinarian. The vet can give him an anti-fungal treatment or whatever else might be necessary.

What's wrong with my dog?

Seems like little hot spots. You should see the vet, it is clearly an infection now and the dog needs antibiotics. Treat for fleas in case they may be causing the problem. The vet will know which direction to go, but at this point he needs to get rid of the infection!!!!!!

What's wrong with my dog?

Is he scratching this area? If so may be hot spots. Could be caused by fleas or allergies. Sounds like an infection to me and you should take him to the vet to get anti-biotics

What's wrong with my dog?

he may have a rash or got bit by a snakejust go to the docter.he also could have got in a fight too.

What's wrong with my dog?

Sounds like some sort of skin irritation or allergy; it's possible the peroxide or the neosporin may be aggravating it. You should have it checked by a vet for sure.

What's wrong with my dog?

Its allergies. Dogs have allergic reactions to things put on them. You said its on his neck, right? If he wears a collar, try keeping him inside the house for awhile with the collar off but keep the collar. If he heals, take a look at the collar it could be something on the collar, maybe the material. If you don't want him running around without a collar, try changing the collar to a different material/brand.

What's wrong with my dog?

mabey its mainge, its real expensive but if you love your animals it is worth it!

Take your dog to the vet!

What's wrong with my dog?

maybe the collar is rubing around her neck

but id still take her to a vet it could be something very dangerous or an infection

If it exists then it has my utmost sympathy if it is destined to be another fashion accessory.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

I have a yellow lab, he's almost a year old and he sheds like crazy! There's hair everywhere. I give him baths, which I figure would help but I cna't bathe him everyday. Is there any way to stop the shedding without spending tons of money?

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

I have a yellow lab as well, and I feel your pain! Brush him as often as you can! But if your dog is anything like mine he hates it and I nearly have to hold him down to do the job! You can also find fish oil at your local pet store, that you can put just a little on your dogs food. This is supposed to help you pet shed less!

I also take my dog to petsmart twice a year to be carded. Basically they have two really bad sheds a year where they lose their undercoat to grow the new one for each season. Carding is just a term for the groomers to go in and get as much of the excess hair off the dog as they can!!

Good luck!!

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Change his diet. A lot of times that will help. If he is healthier, he won't shed as much. Also, brush him everyday so that the hair he is shedding is collected and not all over your house!

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Brush him weekly. It should take a lot of the excess hair off.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

brush him everyday with a good wire brush, some dogs need to be brushed a few times a day, but hey whats five minutes of brushing your dog, its much better than an hour of vacuuming!!

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

A good brushing every day should help collect his hare before it gets everywhere.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Reduce the number of baths and give him a good brushing each day.

I have a golden mix. After I give her a bath I get *tons* of hair off the next time I brush her. I don't get nearly as much when she hasn't been bathed.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

at the pet store the have a shampoo for dogs that shed alot. you can also groom them daily. that should help with some of it.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

I saw a commercial and they sell these shedding things and they did one on a dog and it worked VERY WELL .

It was 14.99

You have to call the place though.

At stores they sell it for about 40.00 ( thats what the TV said)

Or what I did is constantly brushed my dog over and over again. She liked it and she stopped shedding

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

I agree with the brushing regularly, however, you need to buy a good "undercoat rake" or "shedding blade". You will be amazed at how much hair will come out. You can find them anywhere...from Walmart to any Pet Supply store. BTW, Too much bathing is not good for the dogs skin.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Changing the diet will help a lot but also you can take him to a groomer and get him sheared. We get my dog sheared about 5 times a year and it really cuts down on the dog hair in the house.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Brush his hair everyday. When you bathe him, put a little baby oil in his water. He may have dry skin.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Brush, brush brush.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

BRUSH HIM!

Believe it or not, the more you brush your dog, the less he'll shed around the house. I try to brush my golden everyday, which he loves. So if you spend even few mintues a day petting him while relaxin, brush him instead and it will help alot of the shedding problem

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Unfortunatly some dogs are simply more prone to sheding than others - it can vary from breed to breed and from dog to dog - and there's no way to "change" their biological makeup. But if you have a dog who sheds to excess there are some preventive steps you can take. Bathing is fine, but it actually doesn't get rid of loose hair. For best results you are going to have to brush the dog every day. Lab's don't have an extremely heavy undercoat, so a stiff bristled brush should work. If it doesn't seem to be picking up enough hair, pet stores also sell "hand mittens" that act as a brush and special shedding blades that detach dead hair. And even though Lab's don't have a double coat, you could still try a comb specifically designed to remove loose hair in the undercoat of dogs.

To keep ahead of the hair, you are going to have to be committed to daily grooming. But I think you will find that your dog will enjoy the attention and it will bring you closer.

How can I get my dog to stop shedding so much?

Try these two products:

Kong ZoomGroom...www.kongcompany.com

And,

The almighty FURminator!!

www.furminator.com

Both of these retract dead dog hair while brushing away the excess dog hair that sits on your dog. If you spend a good half-hour brushing out your dog, the fur will end up in the brush and trash rather than your floors.

Trust me!!

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

My basset is shedding bad. I MEAN BAD! My entire home is covered in black dog hair. I have to wash my bedding every other day, I even got a plate out of my kitchen cabinet the other day with dog hair on it. He has stopped up the bathtub! Is there any cure? Anything I can do?

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

I have a basset hound/beagle. See your vet and ask him to give your dog SHED-STOP this you give to your dog and it will cut down on his shedding. Of course you cannot stop it completely due to dogs do shed at times but you won't have the hair your finding. Also talk with your vet about how many times your able to give it to your dog. Good luck!

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

no my two are the same yewkie is worse than ringo the onyl way to help is to brush then outside every morning mine are white so I can't wear black.. but you can trying only wearing black and gettign black bed sheets...www.myspace.com/ yewkie_and_ringo. good luck

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

How long has he been shedding? Has this been ongoing since you've had your dog? If not, is he scratching? If he is scratching and loosing hair, he might have the mange (I think that's how you spell it). Your local vet can dip him and he'll be good as new. Although, if this has been an ongoing process, your dog is probably just a shedder. If you have a backyard, maybe let him run and play out there instead of keeping him in the house all the time. However, if it is very cold outside where you leave, I suggest keeping him inside, nomatter how bad he sheds. Try calling your vet if you're concerned. That is what they are there for.

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

you can try brushing him with something designed to trap the hair so that it localizes the worst of the shedding, but you may have to do this twice a day if he's as bad as it sounds. Do you live somewhere where it's getting warmer? he may just be getting his summer coat so there's an end in sight... the dogs here in wisconsin haven't started shedding yet. if this continues, try taking him to the vet to check for skin irritation or other problems.

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

My Doberman is shedding fur as well..Took him to the vet n she said it was caused by allergies from the dog food..he was gettin worse b4 i took him to d vet.He was bitin himself much n scratchin all d time.perhaps its from allergies? or d shampoo u have been using isnt suitable for him? Some dogs r allergic to beef/chic/corn/yeast..etc..best u take him to d vet to find out.Perhaps ur dog juz needs some extra vitamins?Good Luck!

Shedding Basset Hound.........?

How old is your dog? Do you take him to the vet regularly and has he been recently as in: since this excessive shedding started? Your vet is the only one who can tell you if it is a medical condition such as allergies, age related, vitamin/mineral deficiency, or I-don't-know-what. You could try switching foods. If you do this, you have to do it gradually:

1st week: 3 parts original food(o.f.) to 1 part new food(n.f.).

2nd week: 2 parts o.f. to 2 parts n.f.

3rd week: 1 part o.f. to 3 parts n.f.

4th week: all new food

If when you go from one ratio to the next his poop gets too runny, go back to the previous ratio for a week. There are many good brands of food out there, it is a matter of what works best for your dog. Go to the different pet supply stores in your area and see what they carry and ask if they have a dog food that addresses this particular problem. Ask if they have samples. When you find a food that you think will help, ask what the return policy is on the food. Most of the premium brands will take their food back if you are unhappy with it. Grocery store dog food is often the cause of many skin and coat problems in dogs. You may need to add supplements to the food as well. Essential Fatty Acids - EFA's could help a lot. Many health food stores are now carrying some great pet supplements. Your vet should also have something as well. Most vets carry Hills Prescription Diet foods, but if you can avoid them, do so. While they do address certain medical issues, my personal opinion is that they are so-so nutritionally. Better than grocery store food, but not up to the standards of Nutro Ultra, Solid Gold, Wellness, Bill'n'Jac, Avoderm, and many others.

I know that sometimes people will bathe their dogs too frequently thinking that it helps when it can actually exacerbate the problem, or even cause new ones. Unless told differently by your vet, most short haired dogs do not need to be bathed more than once a month, with brushings in between baths. There is a brush called the Zoom Groom that is made of all rubber that is very effective at grabbing the loose hair, as well as a glove with rubber nubbies on it that is called (I kid you not) The Love Glove that makes it more like you are just petting the dog.

Good luck and hug your doggy for me.

Help...I have a VET question?

My dogs hair is falling out. More like it is PEELING off. He has these bald spots on his back, and when i pull his hair back to look, it literally peels off. He is old, he is 10, he is a weiner dog mix. I dont know what is wrong with him!

Help...I have a VET question?

This same thing happened to my 10 year old dog. She had allergies. She had to have a shot every month, it worked at first but eventually it was just her time. Take him to the vet and ask for him to be tested for allergies.

Help...I have a VET question?

maybe he has mange. if so it will just take a bath and some medicine that you can get from your vet

Help...I have a VET question?

I have had dogs all my life, my grandmother use to breed the weiners. They are so cute. I have never heard of there hair falling out or peeling off like you say. There might be something really wrong with him/her. go to the vet

Help...I have a VET question?

could be mange - take him to the vet

Help...I have a VET question?

You really need to see a real vet.

Help...I have a VET question?

My mothers Chihuahua gets these spots and hair falls out. She is allergic to fleas. Give bath and get flea treatment. but the best advice any of us can give is take baby to the vet. No reason for a dog that old to suffer.

Help...I have a VET question?

This could be a multitude of things. I recommend you take your dog to the vet and request senior bloodwork.

Help...I have a VET question?

take him to a vet, but it sounds like hotspots. i don't know much about hotspots, myself. i do know that my mom had a very old collie with cancer AND hotspots. i don't know if the two are related. get him checked out. hopefully one of the vets comes in here and gives you some better advice.

Help...I have a VET question?

If you have vet question please take it to your REAL VET. You have no clue who is telling you what here. Everyone talks about back yard breeders why isn't anyone getting on these back yard vets. They tell you what to do then their source is I am a vet.. How in the heck do you know who they are. People will put their dogs in the hands of a stranger than a vet who can check over their dog to see what the problem could be. I will never understand this.

Help...I have a VET question?

I work as a vet technician and have had problems like this a lot i would suggest taking him to a vet where u live because dashounds that is their actual breed name generally do not lose their hair like u say so he probably has the mange they will give u some medicine for this problem.

Help...I have a VET question?

I definatley go to the vet, but when dogs get old sometimes they get diseases. One disease that affects the skin and coat is Thyroid. Please check with the vet. Dont let the dog suffer..

Some Questions?

What are some good brand name dog supplies?

What is some good puppy food and where can i get it?

Where can I get some good worming medicine?

Can I curl my dogs hair with hair curlers?

Thanks in advance! ;D

Some Questions?

1. ANYTHING KONG!!! durable, and fun!

2. Canidae and Chicken Soup brands- DO NOT FEED SCIENCE DIET OR BENEFUL, or anything else the above people listed. it is CRAP food. wo to this website, and you can search and read about dog food, and it tells you why certain brands are CRAP! www.dogfoodanalysis.com - you can get good most at local feed stores and petstores that are not huge chains. - i know both canidae and chicken soup for the puppy lovers soul have websites, (search on yahoo) and you can click find a retailer, and you can search for places near you.

3. I would go to the vet for any kind of meds. you want them to work good!

4. I have no idea about curlers sorry, im sure you could ask a dog groomer about that!

Some Questions?

Well, most pet stores only have name brand items, so I'd say any product from a pet store will be fine for your pup. The best food around in my opinion is Wellness. (An all natural food that has essential vitamines that most other foods don't contain.) You can get a product called D-Worm, though I recommend you go to the vet for the wormer. Lastly, I would only use spounge curlers in your dogs hair. When you curl with hot rollers or a curling iron, you may burn the dogs skin. Dogs skin is much more sensitive than humans, so don't forget that.

Some Questions?

BENEFUL now has a puppy formula. but it is a low end brand name. IAMS is vet recommended, but a little expensive. there's all kinds of natural foods that you can get at PET-CO. you should check with your vet. i've recently noticed that most dog foods have alot of sugar, flour and meat BY-PRODUCTS. none of which is healthy.

on the pet supplies, you want decent collars and leashes etc, but don't go broke buying a cutsie collar that the puppy is going to outgrow in 6 months. PET-CO / PET SMART will have all the supplies you need including wormer (really should talk to your vet about that).

and why would you want to cul your dogs hair?

Some Questions?

Science Diet is the best food, and you get it from the vet or a pet shop.

Worming medicine is best from the vet.

Just be careful not to burn the dog or singe the hair with the curlers. If you do singe it, it will eventually grow back out and be normal.

Some Questions?

Any puppy food that is 100% nutritious is fine for your dog. Purina and Science Diet are the two I'm familiar with but your vet can also give you a list. It doesn't have to be expensive but must have enough protein to fill the need of a growing puppy. You can usually pick up the puppy food at the vet's office (expensive), a grocery store or Wal-Mart, shop around.

Let your vet determine the best medicine for worming as young pups can easily be given too much or a medicine that is too strong for them.

Yes, you can use curlers on your dogs hair, if it will sit still long enough. Don't use those self-sticking velcro rollers (can get stuck in the hair and you have to cut them out) and whatever you do DON"T use a curling iron, it is too dangerous. Hope this helps.

Yeah well I thought maybe you could sign my petition to create more. You see us dogs have to walk in these sidewalks and it's really bad for our paws. So I was thinking that you should sign my petition. Hey don't go! Hey I know you're wondering where I have that petition, but I ate it! I wanted something to chew on and I couldn't find my bone. You see that's the other problem. I really want more chew toys that can fall apart. I like tearing things apart but every toy I have is to hard to tear apart with my teeth. That's why I have strong jaws. Yeah but I want to feel like a wolf... no no a lion! Yeah those lions, boy could they tear things apart! Hey I'm talking to you, yeah you could pet me, I won't bite. What do you think a dog is yelling as it barks at strangers?

Most dogs barks are bigger than there bite, it would probably say something to the extent of

"I know Im making a lot of noise, but really dont have anything else to say. Hey, have you seen the kim kardashian sex tape? Yeah buddy, she hot. If I wasnt a dog, she'd do me. I know it. Are you a tree? Whats that smell, grrrrr I need food, you smell dead rats and you've had relations with a sheep in the past 49 hours havent you"

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

I'm having arguements with my mother and she thinks her cigarette smoke is not what is causing me to breathe bad, I've been allergy tested and I'm allergic to, dog hair, cat hair, rag weed, and dust, we have dogs which im pretty sure thats a problem, but thats controllable with an allergy shot that i will soon be getting, but cigarette smoke is really my main concern i start getting that mucas feeling when im around it like my air ways tighten up...

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

Smoke does it. I don't smoke at all and never did. My youngest is three and has asthma. If someone smoking around him his asthma start flaring up. Your mom is wrong..

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

Your mom is very wrong ! It is the worst thing for you and is to blame for most children developing asthma.

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

smoking is horrible! sell tell Dr. Covorkian to stop smoking!

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

Your mom need to know this

Smoking has been shown to directly damage the defense mechanisms of the respiratory tract by reducing the ability of the cilia to clear the respiratory tract, and by altering bronchial mucus production. In addition, an inflammatory process of the small airways develops in smokers, and in susceptible individuals, this process becomes progressive and causes airway narrowing.

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

Cigarette smoke is absolutely going to cause your astham to flare up.

Smoke is not an allergen but an irritant. She probably thinks because you didn't test positive to it, you're fine and she's not bothering you.

Constant irritation from the smoke can leave you immune system more vulnerable and you might find that you're suffering from your allergies more often.

Perhaps your best bet would be to take her to the doctor with you and have the doc explain how negatively she's impacting your health. She should know better anyway. It's not like anyone can tolerate smoke, even smokers. There's a reason smokers are always hacking and coughing.

How bad is being around cigarette smoke for an asthmatic ??

Tell her it can kill you. I have severe reactions to smoke. I have asthma. If you have a severe attack and can't get immediate attention then you could die from as asthma attack. I don't know how old you are but if you are out of the house you need to stay away until she gets serious about it. If you live at home still you need to get your doctor to talk to your mother about the seriousness of smoke on asthmatics. Good Luck
