What breed is my dog?

we bought him as a purebred english cockerspaniel but he does not look like any cocker spaniel i've ever seen. hes taller and slimmer than he should be. his nose is more pointed than it should be and his hair is short. here is a picture of him as a puppy, i will try and find a more recent one.

what do you think he is crossed with, or is he just a weird cocker?

Very small picture. English Cocker Spaniels are a bit different from American ones.. longer nose, a bit taller, more leg, not as cobby(more slender). Contact the breeder.

You bought him from a breeder? I would contact the breeder and talk to them about your concerns.

I don't know he looks full cocker to me.

If you bought him from a pet store, it is not normal for the parent of the dog to be a tiny tiny part something else. It looks to me like a small part setter?!?! He does look much like an american coccer spaniel. I do believe american coccers can be a bit bigger than the english. setters have longer noses and are leaner. That's my guess.

from the small pic, he looks like a cockerspaniel, there are very diffrent characteristics for each breed, you might want to ask the breeder what they think.

you should remember that there is a difference between a cocker spaniel and an english cocker spaniel. and that the english ones are bigger and have longer muzzles. here is the breed standard for what you bought!

He's very cute. He could be pure bred since so many breeders don't watch the lines closely, inbreed, breed puppy mill style, etc. resulting in dogs that don't meet the breeds "good" standards or guidelines. Having papers or being pure bred does not really mean anything for most dogs.

The main thing is if he is a good pet.

He looks like an English Cocker, just not a well-bred one. You probably got him from a pet shop, commercial breeder or BYB.

I don't think he is a purebred cocker spaniel, he is a little big. He looks like he may a cross between a cocker and irish setter or something... either way though, he is absolutely gorgeous. You have a beautiful animal there...

He looks cocker to me. I have seen cockers that are thiner in the body frame.

In fact, I found a cocker recently and took her to the vet to ask if they knew who her owners were, anyway, she was long legged and had a thin nose and I asked the vet and they said she was a full blood cocker. I was thinking she was part irish setter or something, but they said no, that sometimes cockers just look that way.

Where there a lot of different types of dogs at this Breeders home? If there was it could have been a puppy mill type of place. but he is definitly bulker than a cockerspaniel! he looks like he has some labradore retriever in him. I see the likeness in His facial features and body structure lead me to thinkin" to Labs. which are great dogs. I have two dogs that are both half lab and I am positive that we got all the good traits that come with a Lab.

but you could have him dna tested and go to the "breeder" and start asking some questions. Hope you didn't pay to much.
