Cat having dog-like behavior?

I'm not asking if this is normal, I just want to know if it is common. I recently adopted an oriental short hair female kitten. Beyond being a very sociable cat (which is caracteristic of the breed), she has a very funny habit. She will take a toy in her mouth and actually GROWL if you try to take it from her. And it is not aggressive !!! She is just playing !

Any of you people have seen this with your cat ?

This is normal. Especially in females, because it is in their blood to hunt food for their kittens. She is showing you that this is her prize. If you have ever seen a cat catch a mouse, then try to take the mouse from the cat....it is the same behavior.

well before you adopted the cat she could of been near dogs and because she's a kitten she'll learn a lot of stuff from any thing she See's. my cat acts like a dog but when he was a kitten we had a dog so it's probably just that. without it's mother it just learns from dogs. (when me and my mum go for walks my cat follows as.)

Very common to all cats pure bred or not, and yes she's just playing.

We have four cats who are DSH and were all stray at one time in their lives.

Three females and one male and all four of them do this.

The male and one of the females will even play fetch with you.

i just wanted to let you know your not alone lol i have two female kittens and they insist on acting like dogs, its funny they will sit at the front door and growl at people walking by and they do the same with there toys, its so cute. normal i dont know but cute it is for sure

My cat does that as well. She also 'barks' at birds and other animals. But then again, she also scales the wall on her side.

Don't try to take away a toy from a child. Cats do like anything taken away from them.

Our 8 month old kittie has a similar dog-like behavior too. Well, more of a trick tho. I throw a ball, she catches it and brings it back to me. We never taught her that.
