How can you safely clean the insides of a pop-up toaster? I usually just shake the crumbs into the trash. But this time, when I opened the bottom of it there were spider webs %26amp; dog hair in it~Nasty!! Would it be ok to run hot water through the unplugged toaster and let it dry thouroghly before using it again or would that damage it?

unplug the toaster and remove the bottom trap door then shake the toaster holding iupsiode down u can gently vaccum the inside being carful to not touch the wires etc then put back together

Although it would be perfectly acceptable to run water through an UNPLUGGED toaster and let it dry, this can possibly cause rust. (unless of course the toaster is stainless steel inside as well as out) Suprisingly old fashioned rubbing alchohol would work better because of the evaporation factor. The alchohol will clean (and kill germs) but cannot cause oxidation because it evaporates quickly. However, whether you use water or alchohol, make sure it is DRY!!! before plugging in or you can cause damage to the toaster or a fire in the case of alchohol.

do not run water thru a toaster! take it out side and use the wand on your vaccuum cleaner on exhaust and blow the garbage out, or just toss the thing out and get a new unit they`re dirt cheap and easy to find, especially with xmas coming up, they are all over the place

I would not run water in it.....They are very cheap at Wal-Mart I would just buy another one. Like $10.
If you are wanting to save it you could.
#1 If you have an air-compressor you could blow it out.
#2 Wipe the bottom of the tray out with a rag with bleach on it after it drys use it a few times and the heat will kill any bacteria let on it.
