Did you fill out a "commencement checklist" when you moved in? You should have filled it out regarding the condition of the unit. Then you turn it in and they give you a copy. This protects you at move out if they say you did something that was damaged when you moved in.

They cannot hold your deposit for animal fur if they already kept your pet deposit. The items you mention in your question are normal "wear and tear" and they cannot hold your deposit for that......It is expected for "normal wear and tear" that the landlord cleans the carpet and paints at their expense, not yours.

Here is the big thing!!!!! Read your lease...Not everyone reads the lease close enough when they move in. There might be things in there that you agreed to that you forget......

If there is nothing in the lease I would send the management company a letter stating your case and tell them if you do not have your deposit returned in 10 days, you will have to call your attorney to take over.

rentings a drag. i always got my deposit back except for last year. they nickel and dimed us and i took pictures of the place the way we left it. if you steamed cleaned it its not going to cost them money to vacuum the carpet. theyre just trying to keep your money. call renters rights. renters have a lot of rights. it would be through your county.
