Tell me about mixing a Shar Pei with a Rottweiler? What do you get in terms of a guard dog?

I love my Rott / Pei very much.Her color is like a rotti but has the face and curl tail like a Pei.She is short hair and very keen on on all types of movement with a high guard and play drive.I have searched every where for people who have this type of mix but not much sucsess on information about mixing this breed.I saved her from being destroyed after I had a Black Lab with puppies nurse her to health,her eyes were not even open when I got her.Here mother was killed by a car when she got out of her kennel.The mother was a pure breed Pei and the father was a pure bread Rott from next door. Only two pups servived the ordeal.

Your dog might be great - it depends. I'd be really careful about socializing her, so that she doesn't become fear aggressive and bite the mailman or your friend's kid. Shar Pei's can become fearful rather easily, and Rottweilers are usually quite guardy, so you want to help her learn that lots of people are nice and only the obviously threatening ones aren't. Most dogs can figure out to defend against threatening people on their own, but they need help to learn not to aggress at everyone besides you and your immediate family.

Also keep in mind that if you encourage her as a guard dog and she eventually bites someone who isn't attacking you, you could be sued. It does happen nowadays, and depending on the laws in your area, she could even be put down by the government as a dangerous dog. Check out the local dangerous dog laws and be careful that you won't lose her to that.

If you're thinking about repeating the mix, I wouldn't do it. Shar Peis and Rottweilers can have very different temperaments, and if you mix them you could easily get dogs with not just the best parts of each, but the worst parts. There are lots of breeds that make great guard or watch dogs without needing a new mix.

Hi there' your dog should make a very good guard dog, but please beware.

The Shar Pei was bred by the Chinese as a guard dog for temples, they are by nature a very fierce and aggressive dog, despite their cuddly and cutesome appearance.

Cross this with a Rottie and you may have a loaded gun on your hands, if it is just a pup bring it up well and with plenty of love and attention and you should have a wonderful dog, who will give up its lfe for you
