Maybe you should consult a dog trainer

You ave to socialize your dog. The best way to do this is to bring her to the front of a local store on a cool day, sit off to the side of the entrance, and just have a seat and let the people passing by meet her. It will take her awhile and if she is trying to bite people already, for the love of god don't do what I just mentioned. If she is just shy and needs to shake that feeling around people, this will be the most effective way of getting rid of it.

I doubt the shot hurt the dog they have a high threshold for pain but it may have been bad expirience for any number of reasons. unfortunatley the cause is the cure. Expose her to more people in her enviroment. Shyness is a fault in many breeds it is usually due to a neurotic disorder.

I would get her out as much as possible. If she's food motivated, bring along treats. If she's play motivated, bring a favorite toy. You may feel like an idiot, but stop random people on the street and ask them to give your dog a treat or play a quick round of fetch or tug (whatever your dog likes most). Soon she's going to look forward to meeting strangers. Do this at the vet's office too, for a dog who doesn't mind going to the vet.

Socialize your dog with other dogs and talk to a dog trainer. A vet can help sometimes. Good luck, this is a matter that has to do with more than being "just protective".

Carry small dog treats with you when your around new people. Tell the person to give the treat to the dog and speak softly and soothingly to her, then carefully (judging the dog's behavior) pet the dog, giving more treats. I find that treats really help with this situation.

i would get her into a training class that uses positive training methods. this will help guild her confidence.

I agree with the above posters, just to get her out there and socialize as much as possible in enjoyable, relaxed settings. This way she will grow accustomed to people and even enjoy it. Be consistent about it and she should come around.

Until she gets to where people don't bother her anymore, don't let anyone go to her fast or in any agressive movement. She sounds like she is beautiful !!! So naturally people will want to rush to her and pet and love on her. My Blue Heeler is like that, but thankfully he has never bit anyone. I really didn't know, but he has been so loved and babied all of his life. I just don't believe he would bite someone. But you know what our babies are like we are, if someone has hurt us, we are leary of those like them. Right? Well, I wish all the luck in the world.

Don't push her into situations where she's not comfortable. Get newcomers to offer her treats, but don't worry if she doesn't take them. They should squat down, not look directly at her, and offer the treat from an open hand. They could also toss a treat on the floor in front of her. Be very matter-of-fact about greetings. If she greets, great, but don't make a fuss of trying to convince her that other people are okay. You could also try a class or just a pet store where people will greet her. If she doesn't turn around, consult a trainer, behaviorist, or vet.

Ask anyone who is meeting her to squat down to her level, put their hand out and let the dog come to them. That way the dog knows that they are not a harm to them.

If there are any local training groups around - join - usually the price is pretty good. The one I belong to cost $70 for 8 weeks of training %26amp; $40 to then join the club for the year %26amp; I can train EVERY week, or every other week, or even 2-3 time a year. Everyone is there to train and socialize their dogs, and the trainers are used to seeing shy dogs. The added benefit is it is fun %26amp; gives your dog a "job". Originally all dogs were bred for certain tasks. Pulling wagons, herding sheep, your dog- hunting/retrieving %26amp; pulling sleds... Most dogs were not bred to be couch potatoes. Even poodles were cold water retrievers... Once you get past basic obedience- you may decide to try competing for obedience or try agility, or rally. The best "bait" (treat) I have found is beef jerky... They can chew %26amp; bite on it, and it keeps their attention.

Start with one person the dog has never met. Have the person come over. Be friendly with the person, and encourage the dog, too. Bring another person, and eventually, more people.
